CIEA is the leading voice for independent power producers in the halls of the State Capitol and at the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC). We are engaged in every docket, bill, and debate that impacts power producers and the wholesale electric market in Colorado.
Colorado Public Utilities Commission
From electric resource planning to transmission planning and all dockets in between, CIEA is the chief advocate for independent power producers at the PUC. CIEA is a respected party whose filings are often a key piece of the decision-making process for commissioners.
Legislative Advocacy
CIEA has a constant presence at the state legislature. CIEA’s lobbyists interact with lawmakers and other key energy stakeholders on a daily basis to make sure independent power’s interests are protected. Additionally, CIEA’s lobbyists are available with real time updates during Colorado’s active legislative sessions which often see votes on more than 600 pieces of legislation.
Governor’s Office and Executive Branch Agencies
In addition to the PUC, CIEA is active in advocating at the Colorado Energy Office, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the Office of Governor Polis including his senior staff. Each of these agencies either directly regulate power production or influence the PUC and the legislature in their work.
FERC
When necessary, CIEA will step into the fray at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to advocate on behalf its members. While CIEA is a small player in the national scene, we engage when there are specific Colorado issues that arise.
